Kildare
A site with a stunning setting beside a man-made lake. A light-filled house to connect with the landscape. This new house was designed to make the most of its setting, and to maximise solar gain for the purpose of heating the house. The entire south elevation is glazed, and provided with solar shading (summer) by the overhanging roof. This cantilevered roof supports the first floor balcony, which in turn provides solar shading to the ground floor. On sunny days the house requires little heating to be comfortable inside, as the solar gain combined with high levels of insulation and a heat recovery ventilation system look after much of the heating needs. The client selected a striking red colour for the house, to make it contrast sharply with the landscape setting.
Indicative build cost (2010): €450,000.00
