What happens during the initial home visit?
You will receive a document by email or post outlining 20 questions to ask yourself before you get started on your project. This will assist you to concentrate your thoughts on what it is that you are planning, and what information to have gathered/written down for the initial home visit. Your architect will visit you in your home at the appointed time. Your architect will spend time asking you questions and finding out what you want to achieve. Options that are available will be discussed, along with their feasibility and implications. They will then take measurements of your property and sketch out a plan of your property as it currently exists. Once this is completed your architect is now in a position to draw up initial design sketches to help you visualise your design and provide input. These drawings will be yours to keep so that you can refer back to them at a later date. The initial home visit is designed to be an interactive session so you will be heavily involved in the process providing information about your lifestyle, your ideas and your feedback on proposed solutions. By the end of the initial visit you should be fully informed and in a position to move forward with your project.

How do I know if I need a half or full day initial home visit?
This will depend on the size of your project. If you are planning a single storey kitchen extension, a half day should be sufficient. On the other hand, if more issues are involved (questions about reconfiguring the existing house, attic conversion, side extension, improving insulation/heating system) a full-day consultation would be more appropriate. If the initial home visit takes less time than planned, the left over hours will be held in credit for future service
